HISTORY:
Originally built in 1876, it is the oldest house in Alfred that is still occupied by Greeks, it was a home built for Mr. Othello S. Potter and his future wife Ms. Clara E. Barney. In 1921 the first Alfred University sorority was formed.
“Theta Theta Chi, announced its advent in January, 1921 with a dinner at the Brick. Nor did these sisters merely exist. When May blossoms opened, they explored with invited gentlemen guests, of course, the wonders of Portage and its famous falls. The next autumn, after successful negotiations with Mrs. O. S. Morgan* through President Davis, the girls moved with pride and joy into Morgan Hall. Soon occurred there the first of those open house events or receptions for students and faculty which were to contribute much to campus social life. And with University assistance (1921) desirable alterations in the house were made, and the girls put on the road to its ownership.”(Fiat Lux, published in 1957) *Mr. O. S. Morgan, M. Sc. A., Ph. D.—Director of Agricultural School Horticulture. (AU 1910-11 year book)
The home was sold by Theta Theta Chi to John Ninos in 2005. John Ninos rented it to Kappa Sigma Epsilon then sold it to KSE Brother Scotty Mesa F06 in 2011. The home is in the historical district of the village of Alfred and is subject to historical requirements that the village of Alfred oversees. As of September 6th 2019 LSIG, LLC has taken possession of the property.
